My greyhounds Joey, Penny Lane and Sweetpea are not fussy eaters but I love to cook for them when I have time. Their little eyes light up when their dinner is home cooked human grade food and I just cannot resist.

One Joey’s favourite meals are meat and veggie patties with plain white rice. It’s so simple and easy to cook and your pooch will love it.

I mix 500g of mince meat or sausage meat with 2 eggs in a bowl. I then grate some veggies like carrots, zucchini, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, etc. into the bowl and combine it with the meat. It looks a bit disgusting but if you can use your hands to mix it all together, it is a lot easier than using a cooking spoon.

Take a small handful of the mixture and roll into a ball, before flattening it into a burger pattie shape. You can cook meat balls too, but I prefer patties because they cook quicker. Fry in a little olive oil in a pan until golden brown on both sides. They don’t need to be cooked throughout and often will continue to cook as the patties rest and cool down on a plate. But your dog can eat half cooked or raw meat anyway so I would not worry about it too much.

Depending on how many veggies you added and how big your patties are, I get about 12- 14 patties out of 500g of meat.

I feed my hounds three patties for dinner with some plain white rice (I add a knob of butter to the rice for extra flavour) which fills them up nicely.
